What is the Human Development Index?
The Health index measures life expectancy at birth, because it is a general measure of a population’s health, while the Education index is calculated based on adult literacy rates as the broadest measure of education status. Finally, the Income index uses gross domestic product as a snapshot of economic status.
The 2016 Human Development Report from the United Nations makes available the HDI of nearly every country in the world, classified as low, medium, high, very high in terms of human development. If you want to look up a country's HDI, click here.
